Cool Tools – Adobe password-protect sensitive documents!

Zumifi - ensuring you have great tools to keep your business humming!

We should all be aware of the need to protect sensitive information. For example, we don’t send 1099 forms without first password-protecting the PDF since 1099 contains a tax ID number that is likely rather sensitive information that should be secured. The easiest way to password-protect a PDF is to use Adobe Acrobat DC. Yes, you’ll need a paid version and not just the free version, but the cost of this program is worth it if you need to handle it on an ongoing basis.

Once in Adobe Acrobat DC, you can click on the File menu, then select Protect using Password. Next, create the password you want to designate on this document. At  Zumifi, we’re fond of using the last six digits of the recipient’s tax ID number. Next, you can determine whether the password should be required to View or only to Edit the document. Again, we choose to require a password even to view the document. Then click Apply, and you are all set!

Security is important to us all – so password-protect sensitive information before emailing it!
